Why do I need to perform a megohmmeter test?
When the leakage current exceeds the design limit that the cable cannot withstand, the cable will no longer effectively transmit energy. All electrical systems used in various fields such as the home; industry, hospitals, automobiles, etc. use wires to interconnect. Therefore, in order to protect the electrical system from external or internal damage, we must check the insulation of the wires.
Insulation resistance checks the insulation quality of the electrical system to avoid any major or minor electric shocks to the operator. Over time, when we leak current from the conductor, it may happen due to damage or moisture or contamination. It can cause various problems, such as light tripping, because moisture enters the wall, which will make the current jump out of the conductor and trigger the switch. We can also see this problem in portable devices such as electric kettles with metal casings, so if we There is an insulation problem. Therefore, by touching the device, we will be shocked.
Let us assume that we are manufacturing a transformer, so the insulation we will use for the winding will be tested before use; check if the resistance is suitable for the winding. If we use insulation without testing, then if the resistance is incorrect, it may damage the transformer. Electric shock may also be caused by insulation failure. Therefore, in order to avoid these types of failures, we conducted a megohmmeter test.
