Safety tips for insulation resistance testers
Insulation resistance tester in use matters needing attention:
1. Work on power lines where possible. Use the correct locking/listing program. If these procedures are not performed or not performed, the circuit is assumed to be energized.
2. Do not connect the insulation resistance tester to live conductors or devices, and always follow the manufacturer's recommendations.
3. Use protective equipment. Use insulation tools, put on flame-retardant clothing, safety glasses and insulation gloves, remove watches or other jewelry, and stand on insulation pads.
4. Turn off the equipment to be tested by opening fuses, switches, and circuit breakers.
5. Discharge the conductor capacitance before and after the insulation resistance tester test. Some instruments may discharge automatically.
6. Disconnect the branch conductor, ground conductor, ground conductor and all other devices from the device under test.
7. Do not use the insulation ohmmeter in hazardous or explosive environments, as the instrument may arc where the insulation is damaged.
8. Check whether there is leakage current flowing through fuses, switches, and circuit breakers on the disconnected circuit. Leakage currents can lead to inconsistent readings and errors.
9. When connecting the test cable, use insulated rubber gloves.
