The cable fault detector is a comprehensive set of cable fault detection instruments. Can test for high resistance flashover faults, high and low resistance grounding, short circuits, cable disconnections, poor contacts, and other faults in cables. Fully functional, testing faults safely, quickly, and accurately. The instrument adopts low voltage pulse method and high voltage flashover method for detection, which can test various faults of cables, especially for flashover and high resistance faults of cables, which can be directly tested without burning through. If equipped with an acoustic fixed-point instrument, it can accurately determine the precise location of the fault.


Structure of cable fault detector

The tester adopts a box structure and a touch screen operation interface. All functional buttons are displayed intuitively on the screen, and users can directly operate them through the touch screen.Equipped with waveform storage function, it can store a large number of on-site test waveforms for easy access, observation, and comparison on the same screen at any time. 


Testing principle of cable fault detector

Cable faults are generally divided into two categories: low resistance, open circuit faults, and high resistance faults. The instrument emits a low voltage pulse or a high voltage pulse to the cable based on the principle of radar ranging. When encountering a mismatch in characteristic impedance, a reflected wave will be generated. The instrument collects the transmitted waveform and reflected waveform at extremely high speed and displays them on the screen, using a double float to capture the two characteristic inflection points of the waveform. The instrument can calculate the distance from the fault point to the test point based on the propagation speed of radio waves in the cable.


S = VT / 2        


S: The distance between the fault point and the testing end. V: The propagation speed of radio waves in cables. T: The time required for radio waves to propagate back and forth between the fault point and the test end in the cable.          


In this way, with V and T known, S, which is the distance between the fault point and the test point, can be calculated. All of this can be automatically completed by the computer with minimal manual intervention (using a double float to mark the characteristic inflection points of the waveform), allowing for rapid and accurate testing of cable faults.


Precautions for cable fault detector

The cable fault tester has a maintenance free high-energy battery inside. When there is no external AC power supply, the low voltage pulse method can be directly used to test low resistance faults, open circuit faults, and the entire length of the cable; It brings great convenience to the use of instruments and improves safety factors. So every time you go to the site to test cable faults, it is best to use AC 220V to provide sufficient internal voltage to the cable fault tester in advance.
