Transformer oil refers to a mineral type insulating oil that is a natural diameter mixture extracted from petroleum. Therefore, transformer oil is also known as insulation oil. Widely used in transformers and circuit breakers, such as various types of transformers (power transformers, rectifier transformers). Electric furnace transformers, test transformers, mining transformers, grounding transformers, electrostatic precipitator transformers, etc., bushings, current transformers, voltage transformers, voltage regulators, reactors, arc suppression coils, coupling capacitors, multi oil circuit breakers, low-voltage oil circuit breakers, column mounted oil circuit breakers, starting compensation capacitors, cables, etc.

Transformer oil is easy to add fuel, so it generally does not include synthetic oil, that is, non fuel oil and high ignition point oil. In addition, there are two types of oils: polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and fluorinated oils, while high ignition point oils include silicone oil, alpha oil, and beta oil. Oil, M oil, poly (alpha olefin), dodecylbenzene, E oil, γ oil. The ignition point of transformer oil is 165 ℃, and the tender point of high ignition point oil is above 300 ℃. Without fuel, it will not catch fire. High ignition point oil, also known as flame retardant oil, is mainly used for high ignition point oil immersed transformers, flame retardant oil on load tap changers, capacitors, cables, etc. Due to the toxicity of cancer, it has been banned. Due to high oil prices, it is rarely used. However,

The widely used insulating liquid is also mineral oil-based transformer oil. Transformer oil is used in electrical equipment, especially oil immersed transformers, due to its excellent electrical and physical thermal properties. It has a history of over 100 years. In 1887, Thomson obtained a patent for transformer oil. At that time, this mineral oil was called a lubricant. In 1892, it was applied to transformers by General Electric Company. Due to the high demand, each large transformer requires 50-60t, with superior quality and technical and economic indicators. Long term use, always dominated by the liquid medium of the transformer.

The electrical strength, chemical composition, and dielectric loss of transformer oil directly affect the insulation performance of the entire electrical equipment. The decrease in flash point temperature and increase in acid value of transformer oil are caused by partial decomposition of electrical equipment leading to oil decomposition. The decrease in breakdown voltage of transformer oil and the increase in dielectric loss can indicate that the transformer is damp. Therefore, in order to ensure the safe and reliable operation of electrical equipment, it is necessary to study the performance and changes of transformer oil.

The electrical strength of pure transformer oil is 200-250kV/cm, which is 4-7 times higher than that of air. Therefore, using it as insulation can greatly reduce the volume of transformers. Because the raw materials for paper and cardboard are abundant, inexpensive, and have good mechanical strength. After immersion in transformer oil, the electrical strength is high. When oil is decomposed, insulation can be restored without leaving permanent discharge channels. Therefore, transformer oil has been widely used. Transformer oil has high insulation strength and is mainly used for electrical equipment. Used as an insulation medium and also as a cooling medium due to its high specific heat capacity.

In high-voltage cables, oil plays a role in filling and impregnating to remove gases inside the cable and improve electrical strength. In oil immersed paper capacitors, oil plays a role in filling, impregnating, and insulating to increase capacitance and dielectric strength. Because the arc extinguishing intensity mainly depends on the oil and gas mixture produced by the decomposition of oil and gas. This decrease in oil pressure will not significantly reduce its arc extinguishing ability, so the oil requirements for oil circuit breakers can be lower than those used in transformers.

Transformer oil testing equipment: insulation oil dielectric strength tester, insulation oil dielectric loss tester, transformer oil color spectrum analyzer, etc.
