How to perform transformer fault diagnosis

In the daily operation of the transformer, due to the long-term outdoor environment or long-term overload work, it will seriously affect the life of the transformer and cause transformer failure. Therefore, this article briefly introduces several basic methods of transformer failure diagnosis.


One, transformer partial discharge failure, partial discharge failure test equipment related knowledge. Its gas production characteristics are the most hydrogen components (accounting for more than 85% of the total hydrogen hydrocarbons), followed by the knowledge of methane test equipment. The consequence of partial discharge is insulation aging. If allowed to develop, it will cause insulation damage and even cause accidents related to the knowledge of the test equipment.

Second, the transformer's low-energy discharge fault is usually electric spark discharge, and the fault gas is mainly related to the knowledge of ethylene and hydrogen test equipment. Due to its low failure energy, total hydrocarbons generally do not have high knowledge about test instruments.


Third, transformer high-energy discharge faults, such faults produce large amounts of gas and violent gas generation. It is not easy to pre-diagnose the method of measuring dissolved gas in oil. It is often after a fault (such as: transformer light gas transmission). Based on the analysis of the gas and gas composition in the oil, the nature and severity of the transformer fault can be diagnosed and tested with relevant knowledge of the instrument.


Fourth, the transformer overheating fault, the gas produced by the overheating fault is mainly methane and ethylene, and ethylene is the main component of the relevant knowledge of the test instrument. If solid insulating materials are involved, more knowledge about CO and CO2 test instruments will be generated. If there is no CO, CO2, it may be related to the knowledge of the bare metal partial overheating failure test instrument.


In the actual work of the transformer, various faults will always appear. Therefore, in the daily work of the electric power workers, they should continue to sum up their experience and improve their business capabilities. When a transformer fault occurs, they can find out in time The cause of the fault and the corresponding solution to ensure the normal operation of the transformer.
